Dr Jerry Wong is one of the two named surgeons at Hasson & Wong in Vancouver. The clinic is high priced and often described as a strong or even phenomenal option, with a long track record that many still rate highly, especially in North America and for FUT and crown work. 12 From what we have seen, some patients still call H&W among the best in the business or even among the best in the world, while others argue the clinic is not at its previous level, which creates a split in current reputation. 234 Dr Wong is also brought up as a potential choice for complex repair work. 56 H&W are frequently described as having a large and skilled technician team and limiting themselves to roughly two patients per day. 7 At the same time, we have come across reports that surgeon involvement has decreased and that Dr Wong uses row style implantation with significant technician execution, which is strongly criticized by some. 8

Based on our research, this is a credible but mixed option. The historic reputation is strong and there are recent reports of smooth surgical days, friendly and capable technicians, and competent outcomes, including dense repair work. 9567 We also reviewed a diffuse NW6 patient who went to Dr Wong for FUT and described the result as decent so far, then planned a later FUE elsewhere mainly for value rather than because of a failed result. 1 The concerns are not trivial. From what we have seen, results with Dr Wong range from decent to strongly praised. Some patients choose the clinic believing it is a top option for large work and crown restoration, and we have seen that sentiment echoed in forum discussions. 12614 In one diffuse NW6 case, the patient described the 7 month result as decent but not clearly superior to what they believed they could have achieved elsewhere at a lower cost. 1 A 3717 graft FUT patient reported a clean immediate post op with minimal scabbing due to thorough site cleaning, which supports good short term handling. 9 H&W are also cited as having produced very dense hairlines in repair contexts, used as an example that execution can trump theory. 6 The technique debate matters here. We have read criticism that Dr Wong’s row style placement can look unnatural, especially for diffuse thinners, although others argue rows can look fine once density is high enough and are less noticeable away from the hairline. 815 Our view is that patients can expect competent work with capacity for high density packing, but those who are diffuse or who care deeply about micro irregular hairline detail should look closely at recent, independent cases that match their pattern. 168915

Direct reports of the surgical day with Dr Wong are generally positive. A 3717 graft FUT patient described the process as a breeze, highlighted that the technicians were kind and engaging, and noted minimal scabbing thanks to careful cleaning. The main discomfort mentioned was staple annoyance during sleep. 9 We also saw a Vancouver based patient who, after an H&W consult, did not feel confident about the plan and chose another surgeon due to concerns about graft numbers, graft handling time, and hairline quality. 10 For patients worried about concealment, H&W indicated to a female patient that they could limit shaving for temple work. 13 Separately, we have come across comments questioning current surgeon involvement at H&W, with allegations that significant parts of the procedure are handled by technicians. 8 The net experience picture is mostly smooth and professional on the day of surgery, with some mixed signals around planning and surgeon presence. 910138

Hasson & Wong are consistently positioned at the higher end of pricing. 17 In a patient’s comparison, an estimated per graft FUT cost was higher at H&W than with an international competitor, although H&W offered an out of town discount and hotel nights that could narrow the gap. 1 Another Vancouver based patient reported saving about CAD 8,000 by going abroad instead of choosing H&W. 10 We also saw confusion about whether website prices are quoted in USD or CAD, which adds some ambiguity for prospective patients. 14 Based on what we have reviewed, this is a premium clinic by cost and reputation, not a discount or mill style provider. 7

The clearest risk raised in community discussions is surgeon involvement. We have read repeated concerns that key steps are delegated to technicians and that Dr Wong uses row style implantation, which some consider indefensible for diffuse thinners. 8 The argument is that rows increase the chance of damaging native follicles and can look patterned if density falls short, especially near the hairline or with shorter haircuts. 815 We also saw a consult that left a patient uneasy about aggressive graft numbers, graft transfer time, and hairline quality, which led them to seek care elsewhere. 10 There is also a broader reputational concern from some who feel H&W are no longer at their prior level and advise avoiding the clinic, although this view is not universal. 4 Even supporters note that no clinic can guarantee full survival and that there is always a non zero failure rate, which is worth keeping in mind for expectations. 7

We think Dr Wong makes sense for patients who want a historically reputable North American clinic capable of large FUT or FUE sessions and who are comfortable paying premium pricing. 179 Those needing high graft counts, extensive crown work, or repair cases, and who are open to strip, may find the combination of mega session experience, dense packing, and an established tech team attractive. 9117 Patients wanting temple or hairline work without heavy shaving can also consider H&W, given their stated flexibility in select cases. 13 On the other hand, diffuse thinners and anyone highly focused on preserving native hair or on micro irregular hairline design should be cautious and review recent cases closely, especially if row style placement is proposed. 8 Patients who want very direct surgeon involvement throughout the procedure should clarify the workflow in detail or consider surgeons who are explicitly more hands on. 7810 Value focused patients may find better fit elsewhere, as some report comparable perceived outcomes at lower cost. 110 For those uneasy about comments that H&W have slipped, we would suggest studying a large sample of recent, independent Dr Wong cases that match your pattern of loss before committing. 4
